M. Mabeuf was the Churchwarden, and Marius' best friend. He told Marius the truth about his father caring about Marius. He went on walks, with at least 1 book, and usually came back with two. When Valjean's purse was stolen and thrown by Gavroche, it was Mabeuf who found the purse. Despite desperately needing the money, he gave the purse to the police, leaving to him having no benefit from Valjean's money. He was the first to die at the barricades, when he volunteered to retrieve the red flag of the revolution, he was shot.
